Angelo Mathews will lead the Sri Lanka ODI team in the upcoming five-match series against South Africa, which starts on 29th July in Dambulla.
The selectors have recalled off-spinning all-rounder Shehan Jayasuriya into the fray since playing his last game in 2016. He was named the ‘Player of the Tournament’ in the SLC Super Provincial Tournament after dishing out quality performances.
Uncapped left-arm spinner from Colts CC, Prabath Jayasuriya is the only new face in the squad. 26-year old Prabath who hails from Matale, played a couple of seasons at Lumbini College as a schoolboy. Since breaking into the club scene in 2011, he has done remarkably well, especially for Colts Cricket Club in the last two seasons. He has taken 36 List A wickets in 25 matches with an average of 21.27.
Both Jayasuriya’s will partner up with Akila Dhananjaya and Lakshan Sandakan to form a potent spin attack while the selectors have named only three front-line seamers in Suranga Lakmal, Lahiru Kumara and Kasun Rajitha along with two all-rounders, Dasun Shanaka and Thisara Perera.
Dimuth Karunarathne who was named the Man of the Series in the two Tests against the Proteas’ has been named in the standby list along with leg-spinner Jeffrey Vandersay, who was put on probation by SLC and uncapped off-spinner Nishan Peiris.
