The Astoria Women’s Future Tournament continued today at the Sri Lanka Tennis Association tennis courts as the top international tennis players battled it out to find the new champion and win the grand prize of $15,000.

The young Sri Lankan representative Adithya Karunaratne had a match against the British player Alice Gillan during the course of the day. The first set was one by the British player Alice winning 6 games to 4. Alice managed to get a quick point off an ace and dominated the break points (4/5) which allowed her to win the first set.

The second set, however, went a different direction witnessing a comeback from Adithya as she managed to take the second set 6-4. The difference came down to the breakpoints won and the number of successful serves each player had. Adithya dominated the breakpoints 3/3 while her opponent didn’t fare so well (2/6) which allowed her to get back into the game.

The final set was the most crucial since it would decide the winner of the game. Both players benefited off a couple aces and had an equal number of double faults but it was Alice who had the edge by the end of the set winning 6 games to 4. Alice managed to secure herself the victory winning 2 out of the 3 sets (6-4, 4-6, 6-4)

India continued to perform well defeating Israel during the match held earlier today keeping up with other top performers like France who has also been winning all their matches.
