Sri Lanka in pool C for Asian U23 Women’s Volleyball

Sri Lanka Women’s U23 team has been drawn in pool C alongside Chinese Taipei, Kazakhstan and Australia for the 2nd Asian U23 Women’s Volleyball Championship in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand.

Sri Lanka in pool D for Asian U23 Volleyball

Sri Lanka Men’s U23 team has been drawn in pool D for the upcoming 2nd Asian U23 Men’s Volleyball..

The tournament will take place from 13th May to 21st May. Chinese Taipei & Kazakhstan were placed 5th & 9th respectively in the 2015 championship. This will be the 1st time the Sri Lanka and Australia U23 Women’s teams will be participating in the championship.

The draw was held at the Asian Volleyball Confederation at Dusit Princess Srinakarin Hotel, Thailand.

Dr Eom Han-Joo, Chairman of the AVC Sports Events Council, presided over the drawing of lots ceremony, while Mr Somporn Chaibangyang, President of the Thailand Volleyball Association, was guest of honour to deliver a welcome address to all participants.

Also in attendance in the ceremony and press conference were AVC Secretary-General Mr Shanrit Wongprasert, Mr Jaksuwan Tocharoen, TVA Secretary-General and Secretary of the AVC Sports Events Council, Dr Rueangsak Siriphol, General Manager of the AVC Headquarters, AVC Referees Committee Chairman Mr Songsak Charoenpong and representatives from SMM, the Thailand-based multimedia company and AVC’s marketing partner from 2016 to 2019.

A total of 13 teams were divided into four pools. Macau, Thailand and Hong Kong are in pool A. Japan, Vietnam and Uzbekistan are in pool B while Iran, Malaysia and New Zealand in pool D.

In the inaugural championship China was placed first while Thailand and South Korea were placed 2nd and 3rd respectively.

The tournament will serve as the Asian qualifiers for the 2017 FIVB Volleyball Women’s U23 World Championship to be held in Ljubljana and Maribor, Slovenia for which the top two ranked teams qualify for the world championship.
