Sri Lanka Emerging complete tour whitewash

South Africa Emerging tour of Sri Lanka

971

The Sri Lanka Emerging team who beat South Africa Emerging team 1-0 in the longer format, completed another series whitewash when they defeated them by 2 wickets in the 3rd and final ODI at the SSC today (14).

A disciplined bowling effort by the host restricted the visitors to just 223 runs. The South Africa Emerging team looked to attack the Sri Lanka bowlers from the word go.  Tony de Zorzi and Eden Bosch made 48 each, and Breetzke made 42, but none capitalize on their good starts and they were bowled out in the 43rd over. The Sri Lankan spinners did the bulk of the damage, with Amila Aponso the most effective bowler capturing 2/33 in a tidy spell of 10 over’s while Jeffrey Vandersay captured 3/54. .

With the likes of Dimuth Karunaratne and Asela Gunaratne rested for this game, Sri Lanka seemed to be struggling in the batting department. Sadeera Samarawickrama though put his hand up hitting 68 at the top of the order before fellow Josephian all-rounder Jehan Daniel guided the latter part of the innings with a vital half century.

When Daniel was dismissed with the score on 193/7, and with Vandersay falling soon after, Sri Lanka looked like they were going down for the first time in the series.

But the impressive  Chamika Karuanratne had other ideas and stepped up to guide the Sri Lanka Emerging team together with Aponso, who hit a few lusty blows at the other end as Sri Lanka completed a 3-0 series whitewash in the unofficial ODIs.
