Sri Lanka Cricket secures US$11.5 million of ICC funds

ICC meetings concluded yesterday (2019.03.02) after a string of gatherings in 6 days to discuss about the future of cricket and planning ahead for the World Cup and beyond.

Newly elected SLC President flies to Dubai for ICC meetings

One of the key decisions that was taken at the meetings was, lifting all the funding restrictions imposed on Sri Lanka Cricket and promoting SLC to full membership status ICC.

Earlier ICC set a deadline for elections for SLC, imposed restrictions on funding and relegated into observer status after SLC elections were postponed and a Competent Authority for SLC was appointed by a Court of Appeal in July 2018.

The ICC Board concluded that SLC has complied with the directions and welcomed new president of SLC Mr Shammi Silva to the Board following his election as SLC President and all restrictions have been lifted.

Apart from that a few important decisions were taken in the ICC council meetings as follows.

  • UAE to host ICC men’s T20 World Cup Qualifier (11 October to 3 November 2019)
  • Scotland to host ICC women’s T20 World Cup Qualifier (31 August to 7 September 2019)
  • Introduction of an age group Cricket World Cup for girls
