The second set of Super Eight matches in the Sri Lanka Cricket Premie League – Tier A began around the island today (24). 

SSC vs Army SC

Discarded Sri Lanka Test batsman Kaushal Silva made a statement with a stunning unbeaten 197*, while Sri Lanka were humiliated on the first day of their 1st Test against Australia down under when they folded for 144.

Kaushal Silva who has been in decent form batted at a decent tempo, as he helped SSC reach 363/2 in 90 overs at stumps while the Army SC bowlers toiled hard throughout the day.

Sandun Weerakkody and Krishan Arachchige were back in the pavilion with SSC on 137/2, but Kavindu Kulasekara joined Silva as the duo added an unbroken 226* for the third wicket. Kulasekara played patiently remaining unbeaten on 82 as Silva seemed to have found a new feature to his game hitting 21 fours and a six along with a more than healthy strike rate of 77.55.

Chilaw Marians vs Colts CC

The tournament’s leading run scorer Oshada Fernando hit his 5th century in 8 games as Chilaw Marians set themselves up for a massive first innings total in their encounter against Colts CC.

While Thikshila De Silva and Yashoda Lanka got half centuries at a good pace, Marians skipper Harsha Cooray went on to remain unbeaten on 99* when play was called off.

Chilaw Marians ended the day on 426/5 while Sangeeth Cooray’s part-time off-spin yielded a couple of wickets for Colts Cricket Club.

Tamil Union vs CCC

Tharanga Paranavithana’s patient unbeaten 120* made sure Tamil Union didn’t fall apart in their encounter against CCC.

Tamil Union slid to 129/6 at one stage, before Paranavithana found an able partner in Damith Silva, as the duo added an unbroken 153* runs for the 7th wicket.

Damitha Silva remained unbeaten on 71* to frustrate a solid CCC bowling unit as Tamil Union ended the day on 282/6.

Wanindu Hasaranga’s leg spin was rewarded with two crucial scalps before the two left handlers made sure no further damage was done.

NCC vs Saracens

Chamikara Edirisinghe’s four wicket haul restricted NCC to 253 all-out against Saracens Sports Club.

Left arm quick Mohamed Dilshad also captured two early wickets but Mahela Udawatte provided much needed resistance for NCC – who also lost to Colts last weekend.

Udawatte went on to make 101 while none of the other NCC batsmen passed the half century mark. NCC continued to miss many of their stars once again as they were involved with national and A teams.
