Day 4 of the Colombo Super League was successfully worked off at the Police Park Basketball Courts. Golden Lions secured their victory against Sappers in the ‘C’ Division.

Golden Lions stepped onto the court having the height advantage and went on to draw first blood after claiming maiden possession. Sappers did move into a tight defense but many of their shots were missed during the offense in the maiden quarter. Virajith Manawadu together with Shanuk Tharindu intercepted many passes of the Sappers and took the control over the ball which helped them add 19 points to the Golden Lions score-line. Sappers could only manage 7 points.

Coming into the next ten minutes of the game, Sappers seem to be very confident and energetic and reduced the deficit by 7 points while Golden Lions missed out on crucial rebounds. Sappers led the second quarter by 15 points but the Lions took the lead in the half.  

Half Time: Golden Lions – 32   Sappers – 22

Going into the second half Golden Lions changed their defensive strategy and employed a full court defensive plan, increasing the pressure on their opponent. Sappers reduced the deficit in the second quarter but Golden Lions kept the scoreboard ticking.  Both teams played to their full potential during the penultimate quarter. Sappers went on to add another 15 points while Golden Lions topped up with 15 points.

In the final quarter, Sappers reduced the scoreboard difference to just 06 points. Yet, Sappers failed to keep the consistency which drew out their winning chances. The final couple of minutes were very crucial for both teams since this was a neck and neck quarter. Even though Sappers scored 10 points, their defense leaked 10 more to the opponents, giving the Lions the win.
