Day 03 of the Colombo Super League continued yesterday (23) at Police Park basketball courts. Christonians and Buffaloes secured victory by defeating KRCSC and Vazians respectively in the ‘C’ Division category.

Christonians vs KRC SC

Christonians took first possession of the ball but KRC managed to constantly keep up the energy with quick points. Both teams played strong in their defense but Christonian lads were more successful in finishing off near the rim while KRC lagged in converting their rebounds.

Even though the Christonians had trouble sustaining possession, their defense was strong under the basket. They did not allow their opponents to deliver the required rebounds to narrow the deficit.

Half time: Christonians – 29, KRC – 22

KRC redeemed their defense and managed to turn their tables in the 2nd half. Shaky passes by the Christonians helped KRC tie the game in the third period. Christonian skipper D. Lahiru managed to widen the margin with a few points. KRC caught up strong with a few fast breaks while their opponents trailed with successful jump shots. A 5 point lead secured the victory for the Christonians in their first match of the season.

Buffaloes vs Vazians

Buffaloes had a good start and managed to grab a lead in the first few minutes of the game. While the Vazians managed to maintain their defense under the rim, the Buffaloes counter attacked, converting a few baskets beyond the perimeter. The Vazians tightened the margin with back to back jump shots by K. M. R. Vimukthi Thamel the highest scorer for the team.

Both teams struggled with rebounds while the buffaloes managed to cover up with lance passes across the court. The Vazians made the maximum out of the free throws earned by them, topping the table in the first half.

Half time: Vazians B. C. – 27, Buffaloes B. C. – 24

The Buffaloes opened strong in their offense, scoring under the basket to bridge the gap. Back to back baskets gave them the momentum. Buffalo skipper M. B. Senanayake and L.M. Soyza scored the most baskets for the team. The game heated up moving on to the final quarter of the game with a single basket giving the Vazians the lead.

The Buffalo defense held strong within the perimeter, pressurizing their opponents to try out three-point shots. Playing strong on their free throws, the Vazians managed to keep the lead. The game remained in the balance until the final minutes on court with a series of free throws going to both teams. Back to back jump shots by the Buffaloes sealed the game for them 55 – 49.
