Colombo Super League continued in the C Division as University of Colombo (UOC) beat Ligers yesterday with a score of 64-65.

Ligers maiden shot swished through the nets from outside the arc which put them ahead on the scoreboard. Ligers building momentum over the first couple of possessions went on to lead the game at the end of the first quarter, 17-09.  UOC, missing shots and rebounds were unable to compete successfully against Ligers. The latter secured both offensive and defensive rebounds giving them an advantage and allowed them to take the lead.

Adeeth Pushpitha, who was the highest scorer for UOC, penetrated through the Ligers defence to finish strong near the rim in the second quarter, while reducing the deficit. Yet, due to minor mistakes of UOC, Ligers intercepted many passes and converted them successfully into fast break opportunities to increase the deficit. It was during this quarter that UOC finally settled into the game however, they still trailed behind Ligers going into lemons.

As the third quarter started, the defensive strategy of UOC changed into a full court man to man defence. This quarter went neck to neck as UOC managed to score 29 points while Ligers struggled. Ligers were unable to control the ball, as they failed to get their layups and free throws in this quarter but the crucial rebounds were grabbed by UOC and successfully converted into points.

During the final ten minutes, Ligers collected many rebounds and intercepted many passes, while taking more second shot opportunities to stay ahead in the game. However, Ligers were able to take the lead by two points in the final quarter but it seems that UOC had already registered their victory from the lead they acquired in the penultimate quarter.
