Bumrah has returned to India following surgery on his injured left thumb.

Jasprit Bumrah will not only miss India’s ongoing Twenty20 International series against England, but also the one-day international leg of the tour after undergoing surgery on his fractured left thumb.

Bumrah suffered the injury during India’s first T20I against Ireland and sat out the next game. He was then ruled out of the T20I series, with the hope being that he would recover in time for the three-match ODI series.

But, as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed in a statement on Friday, 6 July, Bumrah will not be around for the ODIs either, and has returned to India.

Jasprit Bumrah has returned home and will undergo rehabilitation

“Bumrah underwent a surgery on Wednesday, July 4, 2018 in Leeds before returning to India,” said the statement. “The surgery was successful and he will commence rehabilitation under the supervision of the BCCI Medical Team.”

Shardul Thakur, the 26-year-old paceman who has played three ODIs and seven T20Is, has been named as Bumrah’s replacement for the ODIs. Deepak Chahar had slotted in for Bumrah in the T20I squad.

The first ODI will be played at Trent Bridge on 12 July.
