St Peter’s affected a ten wicket victory over DS Senanayke College in the Singer Schools U19 Div 1 cricket tournament match held at St Peter’s Grounds.

After a big win in the previous match against Prince of Wales, the Petes looked to get back on winning ways as they approach the business end of the season. The home side won the toss and put DS to bat first. DS kept losing wickets at regular intervals. The Peterite bowling attack rattled their way through the batting line up as the visitors were bundled out for 112 in 40.3 overs. Torin Pitigala top scoring with 27 runs as speedster Ravindu Silva bagged 3 for 36. Dinal Jayakody and Taneesha Weerakoon chipped in with 2 wickets each.

Peter’s came onto bat with momentum on their side but their top order collapsed yet again. It was in form Ranmith Jayasena who scored yet another half century for his side. Ranmith was dismissed for 88 runs just 12 runs short of his second century this season. All-rounder Manelka De silva chipped in with a valuable 45 runs. At the close of play on day one they 188 for 7. Skipper Vinu Mohotti steadied the ship with an unbeaten 51 runs before he decided to declare the innings at 249 for 9 in 58 overs.

DS came on to bat they were taken by storm by the Peterite spin wizard Taneesh Weerakoon. At tea DS Senanayake was 96 for the loss of 6 wickets, alarming fact was that all those 6 wickets were taken by Taneesha Weerakoon. Vihan Gunasekara was the lone fighter for the visitors his 40 run cameo made sure that they avoid innings defeat. DS Senanyake was bowled out for 145 runs in 58.1 overs giving the home team a target of 9 runs.

Peterites got over the without losing any wicket which gave them a 10 wicket victory over DS Senanayke College.
