St. Sebastian’s into their second final this season

St Sebastian’s secured the remaining spot in the Final of Singer U19 Div I Cricket tournament after beating S Thomas’ College in first innings at the 2nd Semi Final at the P Sara Stadium.

At Stumps on Day 2 S Thomas’ were struggling at 246 for 8 wickets trailing by 73 runs. Sebs did not take much time to clean them out as Dellon Pieris lost his wicket to Asher Warnakulasuriya took his wicket. Ravidu Thilakaratne only lasted 4 deliveries which ended St Thomas’ innings at 250 runs in 94.1 overs. St Sebastian’s claimed first innings victory and there was no way that they could loose the match at this stage.

Sebs came on to bat for their second innings and they lost some early wickets. They were 50 for the loss of 4 wickets when first innings centurion Mishen Silva and Tharusha Fernando put up a century stand  for the 5th wicket. Mishen played a quiet role while Tharusha took control of the proceedings. Tharusha scored 80 runs in 116 balls with 14 boundaries. The game was in their hands and this innings was merely batting practice for them. At Stumps they were 227 for 8 in 67 overs. Ravidu Thilakarathne took 3 wickets for 69 while skipper Sachitha Jayathilaka bagged 2 for 28. With the first innings victory in the bag, Sebs secured their spot in the final and they will facing St Peter’s College to compete for the league title.

Early on Sebs posted 319 runs after winning the toss and batting first. Mishen Silva with brilliant century for his team guided them to this massive total which gave them the edge in the first innings. Thomians had an uphill task ahead of them and they showed good fight right through out. There were good contributions from Rashmika Opatha and skipper Sachitha Jayathilaka but it wasn’t enough.
