The 31st annual limited over encounter between St. Sebastian’s College and Prince of Wales’ College Moratuwa will unfold on the 27th of March 2016 at the Moratuwa De Zoysa Stadium. The Sebastianites lead the tally in the shorter-format of the game with 14 wins while Cambrians are not far behind with 13 victories.

This limited over encounter promises to be a thrilling affair with some interesting results unraveling in the past weeks.  St. Sebastian’s went into the 66th Battle of the Golds as favorites, having impressed during the U-19 Division 1 School cricket season where they did not succumb to any opposition.  Prince of Wales suffered their only defeat at the hands of St Peter’s College, Bambalapitiya.  After getting into a commanding position with the help of Avishka Fernando’s quick fire 70 and a brilliant half ton by Mishane Silva on the 1st Day, the Sebastianites were tamed by a fighting Cambrian outfit, who were determined to seal the game with a draw having had to play catch up from Day 01. Cambrians, chasing a target of 250 in 40 Overs in the 04th innings of the game, ended up at 149/4 with Vishwa Chathuranga top scoring with 55 and Vihanga Weerakkdoy making an unbeaten 42 to help POW save the game.

This past week saw both these schools, battling it out for a place in the quarter finals of the Singer’ under 19 all-island limited overs cricket tournament 2015/16. Cambrians seem to have taken heart from their Big match showing and managed to beat the high riding Thomians and are brimming with confidence. This victory is definitely going to be a huge morale booster for the team and they will look to continue their good form to this all important annual match up.

 Battle of the Golds ends in tame draw 

St. Sebastian’s met Isipathana College, one of the best teams in the schools’ tournament this year, and were commanding over the strong Isipathana line up beating them by 45 runs and turned quite a few heads to become dark horses to clinch the Limited overs title this year.

With both schools advancing to the quarter final stage of Singer U-19 All Island Limited overs Tourney, this matchup is certainly proving to be a game not to be missed as both camps will look to take forward their winning mojo into the quarterfinal.
