Sarasavi Uyana Maha Vidyalaya in Peradeniya was victorious in the All Island Inter School Under 18 Sevens Division II tournament that was held in the Vincent Dias Stadium in Badulla on the 15th and 16th of August 2017.

Trinity finally earn long awaited silverware

Trinity College beat St Joseph’s College 22 points to 12 to clinch the Cup Championship in the U18..

Following the success in the division I tournament, the Sri Lanka Schools Rugby Football Association in its view to shortlist the prospective players for the upcoming Asia under 17 rugby series, held the lower tier schools tournament in Badulla with a total of 32 teams.

It was Sarasavi Uyana Peradeniya and Mahanama Navodya College that made it to the cup finals and it was the Sarasavi Uyana boys who won the title winning the finals 12-7.

Meanwhile, Sir John Kotelawala College and Ginthota College made it to the Plate final and the school from Kurunegala, the Kotelawala College players who took home the plate championship winning the final 54-0.

The Galle representation, St. Aloysius College were the winners of the Bowl title having defeated Sri Sumangala College Panadura 20-0 in the finals. The final silverware on offer was the Shield and it was taken home by President’s College Maharagama. Coming in second place in the shield was St. Luke’s College Ratnapura.

The Sarasavi Uyana team was, however, the main highlight in Badulla and their key player Aponsu was adjudged as the best player in the tournament.

With the completion of both Under 18 Sevens tournaments, schools rugby will now move to under 16 with the 10-a-side competition this weekend (19th & 20th) followed by the 15-a-side later in the month of August.
