South Asian Gateway Terminals (SAGT) the first public private partnership container terminal in Sri Lanka revealed their plans of continuing their partnership with Ceylonese Rugby & Football Club (CR & FC) for the 5th year running for the 2018/19 Rugby season.

The news was broken to the public today (11th November) at a press conference held at CR & FC. This partnership first began in 2014 and has been going strong ever since, as both parties are highly delighted with the outcome from the past years.

Present at the event, Ted Muththiah, a former Sri Lanka representative, CR & FC player and Sri Lanka administrator reflected on the common attributes of this partnership.

“SAGT are the proud sponsor of CR & FC. When we came to this decision first, it wasn’t easy at all. However, competition is not only in the country but out of it as well, just like CR & FC, you’re in a competition but you’re actually promoting Sri Lanka Rugby and that’s where we really aim to be. Winning tournaments is good and it helps us promote Sri Lanka Rugby.”

It was also revealed at the press conference that Joseph Fuimaono, a loose-forward from Samoa will be their foreign representative for the club at this year’s tournament.

Joseph has represented Manu Samoa in the shorter format of the game while he has also played for Samoa ‘A’ and the World Rugby U23 Pacific Island combined XV’s.

He will no doubt add much needed value into the loose-forward ranks of CR playing alongside the likes of Omalka Gunaratne, Joel Perera and new recruits Shehan Dias and Wajid Faumy.

CR & FC have had a fruitful recruitment process over the off season, getting the signature of a few school boys who light up the schools’ rugby season, namely, Gemunu Chethiya, Janidu Dilshan, Vishwa Ranaraja, Himantha Hirushan and Risith Kaviyanjana.

CR & FC kick off their season with a grudge match of the season, the Maitland Crescent derby, as they take on CH & FC on the 10th of November at Longdon Place.
