Four matches in the Singer Schools U-19 Division 1 two-day cricket tournament 2017/18 were concluded today around the island.

Richmond College vs St. Peter’s College

St. Peter’s College managed to record an outright victory over strong outfit Richmond College in the Group C encounter which concluded today at St. Peter’s College. Hosts resumed day two on 51 runs for 1 wicket and went onto post 239 all out for their first innings. Richmond College began their second innings with 36 runs behind and batting collapse saw them bundled out for just 87 runs. Right arm off spinner Sachin Silva was main destroyer with the ball for hosts as he bagged 7 wickets for 19 runs. St. Peter’s College had only 52 runs to chase to win the match which they did with 7 wickets to spare.

Maris Stella College vs Thurstan College

Traditional fixture between Maris Stella College and Thurstan College ended in a draw at Thurstan Main Grounds but the visitors managed to win first innings points. Thurstan batters resumed day two on 65 for 4 and only added another 141 runs for remaining 6 wickets as they were bowled out for 206 runs. Pasindu Ushetti and Naveen Fernando picked up 4 wickets each for visitors. After being asked to follow on, Thurstan scored 205 runs for 6 wickets at stumps on day two.

D.S. Senanayake Colllege vs Nalanda College

Nalanda College dominated the day one in the traditional fixture against D.S. Senanayake College which commenced today at Bandaragama Public Grounds. D.S. boys won the toss and decided to bat first but the decision did not go in favor with them as they managed to scored only 145 runs for their first innings. Umeshka Dilshan and Chamindu Wijesinghe picked up 4 wickets each for Nalandians. In reply, Nalanda batters managed to go pass the opposition’s score as they finished day one on strong position with 236 runs for 6 wickets.

Group D fixture between Lumbini College and Maliyadeva College commenced today at Maliyadeva College Grounds. Visitors won the toss and decided to bat first and posted a solid total of 269 runs on the board. Kavin Kemitha (73) and Vinu Hemal (60*) contributed with valuable half-tons for visitors. In reply, Maliyadeva batters scored 168 runs for 6 wickets at stumps on day one. Kavin Kemitha who top scored for visitors showed his bowling skills as well with 4 wickets for 33 runs.  Match will continue tomorrow for day two.
