Sachin rescue St. Peters; Thomians take control in Maradana

S.Thomas’ College are in command against Zahira College and Peterite all-rounder Sachin Silva excels against Wesley College in the Singer Schools U19 Division 1 two-day cricket tournament matches which started today (29) in 2 venues.

S. Thomas’ College vs Zahira College

The Thomians opted to bat first in the group ‘D’ encounter which commenced today at Zahira grounds. The lads from Mount Lavinia went on to score 234 all out in 69.1 overs. Skipper Dellon Peiris was the highlight of the innings with a 114 ball 65 that comprised of 6 boundaries.

Left-arm spinner Mohommad Adhil bowled 21.1 overs to claim 5/66 to keep the visitors under 250 on a dry surface. In reply, the hosts were struggling as Thomian left-arm seamer Kalana Perera ran through the top-order with wiry seam bowling.

The match will continue tomorrow for day two.

St. Peter’s College vs Wesley College

The Peterites won the toss and opted to bat first on batting friendly conditions in Wellawatte. The hosts were in a spot of bother as they lost 8 for 131 in the afternoon session. However, number eight batsman Sachin Silva came to the rescue with an unbeaten 80 off 124 balls that included 8 boundaries and he was partnered by late-order bat Miflal Ameen who chipped in with a valuable 41 to post a respectable 250 all out in the group ‘C’ encounter.

Right-arm seamer Senal Dangalla and right-arm off-spinner Movin Subasinghe bowled their heart-out to take 3 wickets apiece for the lads from Campbell Park.

In reply, the visitors lost 3 quick wickets for 58 runs at stumps. Sachin Silva was impressive with his off-spin as he grabbed 3 wickets to follow-up his batting efforts.

Match will continue tomorrow for day two.
