S. Thomas’ College vs Zahira College

S Thomas’ College registered a massive win over Zahira College by an innings and 29 runs at Maradana today. The home side resumed play on the 2nd day in dire straits at 5 wickets down for just 42 runs. They could only add 52 runs for the remaining 5 wickets as they got cleaned up in the morning session for just 97 runs. Left Arm Paceman Kalana Perera bagged 7 wickets for 34 runs.

With a deficit of 137 runs in favor of the visitors, S Thomas’ decided to enforce the follow on. There wasn’t any improvement this time around for Zahira either as they succumbed to a paltry 108 runs. Dineth Kannangara, Dellon Pieris, Thevin Eriyagama and Shannon Fernando bagged 2 wickets each.

Earlier in the game, S Thomas’ College won the toss and elected to bat first. They posted 234 runs. Dellon Pieris top scored with 65 while Kishan Munasinghe and Maneesha Rupasinghe chipped in with valuable cameos.

St. Joseph Vaz College vs Nalanda College

St Joseph Vaz beat Nalanda College by 8 Wickets at Katuneriya. Joseph Vaz won the toss and elected to field first, restricting Nalanda College to just 156 runs. Nipun Dhananjaya was the pick of the bowlers for Joseph Vaz with 3 wickets. Akash Kanishka and Dineth Fernando shared two wickets each. Apart from Suhanga Wijewardane’s 59 runs, there wasn’t any significant contribution from the rest of the batters.

In reply, St Joseph Vaz College posted 204 runs for their first innings. Half centuries from Nipun Dhananjaya and Anjana Rukmal helped them gain a lead of 48 runs. Lakshitha Rasanjana bagged 4 for 69 for the Nalandians.

The match was heading towards a draw but the boys from Wennappuwa managed to turn things around with the ball. It was once again Nipun who got the crucial wickets in the second innings to go with his half century with the bat. He bagged 4 for 28 while Sashan Dineth took 4 for 19 as Nalanda College was cleaned up for 77 runs in 37.2 overs.

Joseph Vaz had a target of 30 runs and they got over the line in just 8 overs with 8 wickets in hand.

St Peter’s College earned much deserved first innings points against Wesley in their group C encounter at St Peter’s College Grounds. The visitors resumed play on 58 for 3. The morning session was vital for both sides and it was the home side who took the upper hand. Off spinner Sachin Silva went on to take a 5-fer as the Weslyites crumbled for just 134 runs. Movin Subasinghe top scored with 31 runs.

The Peterites enforced the follow on with a lead of 116 runs. The visitors put up a valiant effort to save the match and succeeded thanks to brilliant half century from Sidath Dharma Siriwardane. Wesley College batted out 85.5 overs to score 169 runs.
