Roshen Silva warms up for Bangladesh in style

The group stage of the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) Major League Tournament concludes today with eight teams confirming their place for the next stage, the super 8’s. 

SSC, Ragama CC, Colts and Saracens went through from group A, while the most notable absentee from the group was the star studded CCC line up which includes plenty of national players.

Chilaw Marians were the top team in group B by far with 5 outright wins from 6 games while BRC, NCC and Sri Lanka Ports Authority booked their place for the super 8’s.

SSC vs Moors 

SSC posted a massive 563 all out as they secured first innings points in their game against Moors SC.

Centuries from Kaushal Silva and Dimuth Karunaratne were the highlights of their mammoth total, while Minod Bhanuka, Milinda Siriwardena, and Sammu Ashan all hit half centuries.

Former SSC player Tharindhu Ratnayake captured nine wickets in the match for Moors SC as they failed to make it to the super 8’s in a disappointing campaign so far.

Saracens vs CCC

Roshan Jayatissa and Saliya Saman’s shared 7 wickets between them as Saracens SC surprised a strong CCC outfit to secure first innings points, which eventually made sure CCC were pushed into the plate tournament while Saracens made it to the super 8’s.

Saracens skipper Harsha Cooray’s century set things up for Saracens before their bowlers made sure they held their nerve to secure first innings points.

Ashan Priyanjan hit a fighting century for CCC and Sachith Pathirana hit a fluent half century but t wasn’t enough for them to hunt down Saracens’ 496 all out.

Army vs BRC 

BRC secured first innings points but Army batted throughout day three as they ended on 454/9 in 115 overs.

Lakshitha Madushan’s 151* not out was the highlight of their innings while Dilshan De Soysa and Ashan Randika hit half centuries.

Chamikara Edirisinghe and Himesh Ramanayake picked up three wickets each for BRC as their bowlers toiled hard throughout the day in tough conditions.

Ragama vs Bloomfield 

Roshen Silva warmed up for the Bangladesh Test series in style as he hit a brilliant unbeaten century for Ragama CC as they secured first innings points against Bloomfield. Silva followed up his half century in the first innings with a patient century, as his knock included 10 fours to make sure he batted his team to safety.

The man in red hot form, Lahiru Milantha, hit another brisk 92 and was unfortunate to miss out on a third ton in 4 innings.

Badureliya SC vs NCC 

NCC recorded a vital outright win to book their place in the super 8’s while Badureliya SC will now have to fight to survive relegation in the plate championship.

The win was set up by NCC’s two left arm spinners Chathuranga De Silva and Lasith Embuldeniya as the duo shared seven wickets between them to dismiss Badureliya for a paltry 160, before NCC chased the required 45 runs without the loss of any wickets.
