The official launch of the 10th Prima Champions Trophy under 15 inter-district and inter-provincial tournaments was held today (13th September) at SLC Headquarters with the participation of all senior SLC officials and Prima Group.

This tournament has been conducted and supervised by Sri Lanka Cricket for the past decade to build harmony, to uplift the cricketing standards, to provide a platform for rural players and to develop feeder squads. Over 800 players from all around the country including the North & East will take part in this competition.

 Prima Champions Cup-2016 

39 teams participated in the district competition from 20th August to 4th September. The 12 provincial teams will battle it out from 17th to 23rd September and the two semi-finals will be worked out on 26th September.

The grand final will be a two-day encounter on 29th and 30th September at SSC grounds with extensive TV coverage. The semi-finals and final will be played on turf wickets while the rest of the games will be on matting wickets.

“Currently 80% of the national players are from outstation and I believe this U15 tournament is the perfect cradle to our junior teams.” Sri Lanka Cricket secretary Mohan De Silva said at the press briefing.  

In the past, the current national cricketers in the caliber of Dhananjaya De Silva, Kusal Mendis, Niroshan Dickwella, Avishka Fernando and Binura Fernando have also participated in the Prima Champions Cup.

Mr. Shun Tien, General Manager, Prima Group Sri Lanka confirmed the renewed partnership with SLC, “Having successfully conducted this tournament for 9 consecutive years with tremendous results, we are proud to continue with the 10th consecutive year of this effort to develop junior cricket with the renewal of our partnership with the SLC.” He said.
