Trinity College beat St. Joseph’s College in the under 14 and under 18 encounters winning 12-7 and 19-7 respectively. St. Joseph’s’s however managed to draw the under 16 clash 7-7 in the friendly matches played at the Havelock Park grounds today.
Under 14 match

The Trinity cubs came into the clash as favorites, but some great play from the Joes saw things even at 7-7 at the end of first half. The Joes managed to score a single try, and they successfully converted. Trinity, after some good passing, scored a try too and successfully converted.

The Joes attacked bravely in the second half, but to no avail. The Trinity cubs broke through to score once more in the 2nd half and although the try went unconverted, they were able to come away with the win – leading by 5 points at the final whistle.

Under 16 match

St Joseph’s dominated play in the first half with a majority of the play taking place in the Trinity half. The Joseph’s defense was put under tremendous pressure throughout the half, but did well to hold on 0-0.

The second half got off to a similar start with the Joes going on the attack once again. The Joes showed more attacking intent this time around, but both defences held strong.
It was St. Joseph’s however who broke the deadlock. Some good passing play in their own half saw a youngster show some brilliant skill to out maneuver and out-pace the Trinity defence before diving through the posts for a converted try.

The Joes battled hard to defend their slim lead while Trinity fought to get back on level terms. It paid off eventually as after a series of quick passes, Trinity got over the line for a try. The Trinity kicker converted successfully to level. the scores between the two sides just before full time.

Under 18 match

Trinity cubs dominated play early on and it paid off as they scored early. They continued on the front foot with the majority of play taking place inside the St Joseph’s half and were soon rewarded with their second converted try of the game. Right before half-time the Joes pulled a goal back to cut the loss in half going into the break.

Trinity continued their momentum in the second half through a brilliant try after their number 8 player made his way through a number of bulky tackles before placing the ball right between the posts after which it was successfully converted. The game was a bit of a physical one and the referee being was forced to show a yellow card during the course of the game as well.
