Junior Royalists ease past Kingswood

Royal College dominated and won both the Under-14 and Under-16 friendly encounters 27-00 and 24-00 respectively against Kingswood College Kandy at the Nittawela Grounds, Kandy.

Under 14 match

Royal kicked off the game in dominant fashion and broke through in the 3rd minute after passing the ball off to their full-back who dove over the try line. The Royalists were seemingly unaffected, playing away from home in front of a large number of Kingswood College supporters. They kept on the front foot and continuously put pressure on the Kingswood defense.

It paid off when moments before half time the Royal center showed great strength to barge his way through the opposition defense and go over the line for their second try, before it was successfully converted.

The Reid Avenue youngsters started the second half just as dominantly as the first, and minutes into the half broke through again. Following some quick passing play, the Royalist in possession showed great pace as he went on a blazing 50m run before diving over the line.

The Kandy boys failed to respond with a try of their own, but the Royalists had no such problems as they showed no mercy. The Royal youngsters broke through for two more tries asserting their dominance before the referee blew for full time.

Under 16 match

Similar to their Under-14 counterparts, the U16 Royalists showed their attacking intent from kick off. They passed the ball off their winger who weaved through the Kingswood defense before diving over the line right at the corner.

Royal kept on the attack and right on the edge of half time, broke through once again for the try, this time around converting successfully.

Sloppy defense by the junior Kingswoodians allowed Royal through once again after some good passing play. The Royalists passed the ball in quick succession before they were allowed to stroll through the defense before placing the try right between the posts.

The Royalists continued to put pressure on the Kingswood backline, which the Kandy boys struggled to handle, as the youngsters from Reid Avenue broke through once again for an unconverted try.

Towards the final few minutes of the game, majority of the play took place in the Kingswood half, but this time around the Kandy boys stayed strong as they defended resiliently.
