The Langkawi International Veterans 5S hockey tournament which is organised by Malaysia successfully for the 4th consecutive year will commence from 29th July in Malaysia with the participation of the Old Thomians Hockey Union.

12 teams will be participating in this tournament with most of the teams coming from Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia. In 2016 the championship was won by Synergy Hockey club in Malaysia.

The event will be conducted in two categories, the open age category and above 40 category.

The Old Thomians Hockey union will be captained by Sanjaya Uduwara and Thiwanka Wijerathne will be the vice-captain. The team is coached by Daniel Edirisinghe. Daniel Edirisinghe is a very experienced coach who coached the St. Thomas hockey team from 1972-2008.

The Old Thomians Hockey team will comprise of the following players: Dananja Peiris, Chaminda Jayaprakash, Rakshan Nayeem, Thusitha Munasinghe, Pujitha Walpitagamage, Gaurawa Liyanage and Dhanashan Kaneshayogan.

Captain of the Old Thomians Hockey Union speaking to ThePapare.com said “This is our first international hockey tour as the Thomians club and we have practiced more than one month for this tournament. Even though we are busy with working we find time to practice and we also try our level best to keep our fitness level that is needed for the game. We all are very experienced players so our experience helps us to achieve victory. This will be a tournament which tries to promote the indoor hockey concept so we are also looking forward to getting experience and our main target is to promote that concept in Sri Lanka and encourage all the hockey players towards it”.
