Trinity vs Ananda

Trinity College Kandy overcame Ananda College Colombo by 9 goals to 2 in the Kothmale Chox Schools’ Football Group A fixture played at the Trinity College grounds in Pallekale. Trinitian Forward Nuwan Jayalath scored a hat-trick for the hosts.

With a draw in their last match against Rahula College Matara, the Trinitians came into the game hoping for their first win of the season. From the start of the game, the Trinity forwards took the game into their hands and Right Wing Ravishka Herath started their goal scoring spree in the 08th minute smashing the ball into the net from inside the penalty box. Ravishka then sent a well-placed cross to the Center Forward Nuwan Jayalath who made no mistake to score his 1st goal. The home side had more scoring chances but was unable to capitalize due to Nuwan’s offside positioning. In the 26th minute Ravishka scored his 2nd with the assist going to Nuwan. Trinity Left Wing T.S.M. Liyanage got into the act to extend the lead to 4-0 by scoring a fantastic goal where he beat 3 Ananda defenders.  The 1st half ended with Trinity leading by 5 goals, a lead which could have been extended further if not for their offside positioning.

From the beginning of the second half the visitors showed aggressive intent and looked to attack the Trinity half but the hosts’ defense line were solid and did not allow them a way through. In the 45th minute Trinitian Ravishka was given a yellow card for disturbing a visitor’s free kick. After some missed chances Kavindu Sithumina finally got on the board for Ananda in the 50th minute. The goal was assisted by Sachintha Sandeepa and from that point onwards the Anandians played some good football in the mid-field but were unlucky to turn possession into goals. Ananda Skipper Nisal Bandara headed in his team’s 2nd and last goal in the 63rd minute.
