Nipun Dananjaya to lead Sri Lanka U19s against India

Nipun Dananjaya of St. Joseph Vaz College, Wennappuwa has been selected as the Sri Lanka U19 captain for the upcoming home series against India U19.

The Indians will play two youth Tests and five youth ODIs from 17th July to 10th August.

Dananjaya who was a part of the Sri Lanka U19 team which played the ICC Youth World Cup earlier this year in New Zealand is a quality middle order batsman and a capable off-spinner.

Apart of Dananjaya, players such as wicket-keeper batsman Nishan Madushka, left-arm fast bowler Kalana Perera, right-arm seamer Nipun Malinga and middle-order batsman Nuwanidu Fernando were also in the ICC U19 World Cup – Plate Trophy winning squad under Kamindu Mendis’ captaincy.

Incidentally, Mendis’ brother, off-spinning all-rounder Sandun, another product of Richmond College has also been picked in the squad.

15-year old Josephian left-arm spinning all-rounder Dunith Wellalage who had a brilliant maiden 1st XI season in 2017/18 has also been picked in the lineup.

The team is coached by former Sri Lanka captain Hashan Tillakarathne and managed by former Women’s Head Coach, Hemantha Devapriya.
