Chathurya Nilaweera and Anjalika Kurera emerge winners after week 1 of the Asia Tennis Federation 14 & Under Tennis Tournament held at the Sri Lanka Tennis Association. The finals were worked off earlier today.

Nilaweera and Kurera played their little hearts out during the week mostly against their own comrades and a few Indian soldiers to edge out as victors and claim the title.

Top Seeds Nelaweera and Kurera left with one more hurdle

Chathurya Nilaweera, defeated 4th seed of the tournament Krishan Raghuvanshi of India in the semi-final with an impressive score of 6/1, 6/1. Nilaweera had no trouble in the final against his pal Nelaka Dissanayake as he finished off the match with scores reading 6/1, 6/0. Dissanayake had no chance in the match as seen by the final scores. With this win Nilaweera maintains an ATF U14 ranking of 22 in the official standings.

Champion in the girls category, Anjalika Kurera had equally impressive victories in the last two stages of week 1. She edged out in the semi finals against Preethika Chandramohan 6/0,6/2 and crushed 3rd seed Onelli Perera in the final 6/0, 6/3. Much like Nilaweera, Anjalika manages to hold on to her ranking of 22nd place in the ATF U14 Girls official standings.

In the Boy’s doubles final Chathurya Nilaweera and Thehan Wijemmane emerged champions by defeating Kavishka Gallage and Rakesh Ratnasingham 6/3, 6/2. Tania Doloswala and Tuvini De Alwis claimed first place in the Girl’s doubles event getting the best of top seed Shruthi Khanna of India and Saajida Razick. The scores read 6/3,6/2.
