Chinthana Geethal Vidanage, Sri lanka’s ace weight lifter ended the year with a resounding performance and bettered his own record clearing a total of 299kg at the Sri Lanka Youth, Junior and Senior Weightlifting Championship concluded over the weekend in Polonnaruwa.
Commonwealth Gold medalist Vidanage hailing from Polonnaruwa, made the most of the support given by his home crowd snatching 127kg and clearing 172kg in the clean and jerk in the 85kg category to shatter his own previous record of 169kg. This is a remarkable feat by the lifter as he has bettered the previous record by 130kg.
Sri Lanka Youth, Junior and Senior Weightlifting Championship was held over four days at the Pollonaruwa public grounds and was attended by over 250 athletes.
