The National Age Group Relay Championships 2014 organized by the Sri Lanka Amateur Aquatic Sports Union (SLAASU) was held on the 17th of May at The Sugathadasa Stadium Swimming complex. Mahamaya College, Kandy emerged as Champions with 136 points in the female category for the 12th time since 2002. St. Joseph’s College regained their title as champions with 103 points in the male category after losing it last year.
The event commenced at 8.30am in the morning, continued throughout the day and concluded at 5.30pm with the awards ceremony. Forty two schools competed for the relay events comprising 4x50m Medley Relay and 4x50m Freestyle Relay for all age groups. As per the new Education Ministry ruling the championships was determined from the performances in the under 15, under 17 and under 19 age groups while the relay teams in the Under 11 and Under 13 age groups swam to achieve a prescribed qualifying standard.
