Nalanda 301 have upper hand over Maliyadeva

Nalanda College is in the box seat after claiming three quick wickets to put visitor’s Maliyadeva College under tremendous pressure on day one of their U-19 inter-school cricket match played at Campbel Place today.

At  stumps on day one Maliayadeva were 28 for three after Nalanda put on a decent effort to score 301 in their first innings.

Nalanda batting first lost four wickets for 84 runs but had three impressive partnerships between Lahiru Wijeratne and Isuru Samarsinghe, Pramud Hettiwatte and Lahiru Wijeratne and Dilan Samaraweera and Dasun Seneviratne to help them put on an imposing total. Wijeratne and Samarasinghe put on 51 for the third wicket before Hettiwatte – Wijeratne combination added 56 for the fifth wicket. However the best partnership was between Dilan Samaraweera and Dasun Seneviratne who added 77 runs for the eighth wicket. Seneviratne was the top scorer with a fighting 57 while Wijeratne produced a solid 53.

Sarinda Dassanayake and Damith Silva took three wickets each.

In response Maliyadeva made a mess of their reply as they lost three quick wickets cheaply.
