The Maliyadeva College rugby administration has refuted the claims of their team withdrawing from top division rugby.

Earlier today, the print media had stated that the newly promoted Maliyadeva College Kurunegala will not participate in the Singer Schools Rugby League Division ‘A’ competition, paving way for Vidyartha College who finished below the qualifying standard to participate.

“I have no clue from where such a news was published. We will be playing the ‘A’ Division next season and that I can assure you” added the rugby management from Maliyadeva College who were shocked by the claims that were made on their behalf.

Maliyadeva College finished 3rd in the Plate championship last season behind S. Thomas’ and St. Anthony’s. Science College booked the last spot while Vidyartha College who finished 5th failed to make the list by a meager.

The school from Kurunegala under the guidance of Ananda Casthuriarachchi has come a long way from Division C up to Division A

This will be the first time a Kurunegala school will be participating in the top league after a long lapse of over 17 years

The Singer Schools Rugby League for 2019 is set to kick off in March next year. The dates and fixtures are to be finalized by the Sri Lanka Schools Rugby Football Association shortly (SLSRFA).
