Malinga rested for Scotland ODIs

The spearhead of Sri Lanka pace attack, Lasith Malinga will not take part in the two ODIs against Scotland which will be held on 18th & 21st of May 2019.

Sri Lanka to play Scotland ahead of ICC Cricket World Cup

The veteran fast bowler is currently playing in the Indian Premier League and his team, Mumbai Indians have qualified for the playoffs so, their quest for the trophy will end on either 10th or 12th May.

Though there will be maximum 6 days of rest, SLC have decided to give Malinga a rest before the World Cup begins.

Talking to ThePapare.Com, the chief selector of Sri Lanka Men’s Cricket team Ashantha de Mel said, “The IPL will end on the 12th so, we asked Malinga to take a 10-day rest before arriving to England. He is our most experienced bowler so, we can’t take any risk with him. That’s why we took this decision”

“He will come straight to Cardiff to take part in the practice matches” he further added.

After the 2 ODIs versus Scotland, Sri Lanka will play two practice matches against South Africa & Australia on 24th & 27th respectively and Malinga will play those matches ahead of the World Cup.

Sri Lanka’s first match in the tournament is scheduled against New Zealand on 1st of June at Cardiff.
