Two matches of the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) U19 Provincial Limited Overs Tournament 2018 were concluded today at Colombo. All-round efforts of Mahesh Theekshana (Western Province North) and S. Mathushan (Northern Province) were the key highlights of today’s play.
Western Province North vs North Central Province
The Group A fixture between North Central Province and Western Province North concluded today at NCC Ground in Colombo. Western Province North skipper won the toss and decided to field first in order to take the full use of overcast conditions.

The decision paid off as North Central Province was bundled out for just 68 runs. Off spinner Mahesh Theekshana, a product of St. Benedict’s College was the star with the ball as he grabbed a 5-wicket haul for 11 runs for the lads from Western Province North.

Western Province North chased down the target with ease in 8.4 overs. Mahesh Theekshana top scored with a quick-fire 27 runs to guide Western Province North to victory. With this win, Western Province North continues their unbeaten run in the tournament registering the third win.

Northern Province vs North Western Province
The Group A fixture between Northern Province and North Western Province was worked off today at P. Sara Oval Ground in Colombo. Northern skipper won the toss and opted to bat first but made only 108 runs all-out in 25 overs. S. Mathushan, a product of Jaffna Central College top scored with 34 runs for Northern Province.

In the bowling department, Shehan Silva and Sithum Akalanka picked up 2 wickets each for North Western Province. In reply, lads from North Western Province posted only 72 runs all-out in 16.3 overs and registered their first defeat in the tournament.

S. Mathushan who starred with the bat earlier in the day, bowled a brilliant spell picking up 6 scalps for just 18 runs to demolish the opposition and guided his side to the second consecutive win in the tournament.
