Mahanama breaks Thurstan hearts

Mahanama College stun Thurstan College in the Singer U19 two-day pre-quarter finals which concluded today at Thurstan grounds.

Chasing 213 to win, Thurstan College blasted the bowling and got to 156/6 as bad-light gave Mahanama College the green light to advance to the quarter-finals. Thurstan opening batsman Yeshan Wickramarachchi scored his best knock of the season with a rollicking 63 ball 95 but still the weather gods gave Mahanama the victory as they had the upper-hand in the first innings.

Ananda College vs St. Benedict’s College

The traditional encounter started around 1:00pm and the only productive thing which happened was right-handed Lahiru Hiranya scoring an unbeaten 100 to gain some confidence going in to the battle of the Maroons. The encounter ended in no result after rain interrupted the game on both days.

Wesley College vs St. Sebastian’s College

Sri Lanka U19 player Nuwanidu Fernando, Preveen Cooray and Malintha Peiris smashed half-tons to put the lads from Moratuwa in a commanding position after they posted 351/6d in the traditional encounter which started at the De Zoysa stadium. In reply, Wesley College lost two quick wickets before umpires stopped play due to bad-light.
