Lumbini College spinners worked their magic on a wearing surface to take control of their Singer Cup U19 division one Group B encounter against Prince of Wales College at BRC grounds today.

After opting to bat first, the Cambrians struggled on a pitch which was slow and low. The spinners made it difficult to score runs and the game was interrupted by rain and bad light twice.

Left-arm spinner Vimukthi Kulathunga was almost unplayable trapping a couple of batsmen right in front of the stumps bowling a disciplined line and length. Captain Thanuka Dabare picked up 3 scalps bowling his off-spinners as the visitors were reeling at 94 for 9 as bad light brought a premature end to the game.

Right-handed batsman Avindu Fernando used his feet to perfection to steady the Cambrian middle order but was unfortunately dismissed for 27 while opening batsman Suwath Mendis made a fighting 20.

Nalanda College vs St. Anthony’s College, Wattala

St. Anthony’s College, Wattala made a fighting 191 in their first innings against Nalanda College as rain interrupted another Singer Cup U19 division 1 tournament – Group A match in Wattala.

After opting to bat first, the hosts struggled heavily against the quality Nalandian attack as Asel Kulathunga picked up 4 scalps and he was well supported by Lakshitha Rasanjana and Dasun Senevirathne who took 2 wickets apiece. Eranga Madushan made a brave knock of 59 while Avishka Tharindu chipped in with a reasonable 33.

St. Anthony’s – 191 all out in 66.5 overs: Eranga Madushan 59, Avishka Tharindu 33, Rukshan Rodrigo 22, Asel Kulathunge 4/34, Lakshitha Rasanjana 2/38, Dasun Senavirathne 2/30.
