The home team dominated proceedings from the kick off whereas the Lankan Women struggled with the conditions. In total the home team managed 4 shots on goal, only 1 being on target. On the other hand Sri Lanka’s only shot at goal, coming in the 91st minute, turned out to be the match winner.

A noticeable improvement in the team saw the girls trying to hold on to possession and playing out from the back. The midfielders controlled the ball, with Erandi Liyanage and Thushani Madushika constantly breaking up the opponents play and counter attacking through Chalani Ekanayake.

Bhutan came agonizingly close to taking the lead in the 52nd minute when a free kick just outside the box hit the post after a partial save by Ayomi Wijerathna. The rebound fell to Tshering Yangden who headed straight onto upright. The ball went across the face of the goal and was eventually cleared off the line.

Again in the 63rd minute another chance went begging when Ayomi and Achala Sanjeewani went for the same ball and both missed. A free shot at goal was scuffed by Ngawang Yangchen and the return shot was also put out by the on-rushing Yangden.

As the game looked towards ending in a tame draw, Praveena Perera made a run behind the defense towards the penalty mark and a long punt from Thilini Jayasinghe fell in the right spot between the keeper Nima Lhden and Praveena who calmly slotted the winner into the back of the net.
