Lankan swimmers return with two national records at FINA World Champs

Sri Lankan swimmers returned to the island yesterday having established two national records at the Barcelona 2013 FINA World Championships concluded in Spain recently.

Kimiko Raheem returned a time of 2:26.61 seconds in the 200m Backstroke clipping 4 seconds off her own national record of 2:30.92 established at the National Championships held last year. Heshan Unamboowe swam to a time of 27.23 seconds to erase his own mark of 27.47 established by him in 2011 in the 50m Backstroke event.

Two male and two female swimmers represented the country at the championships under universality places allocated by FINA. The other two swimmers representing Sri Lanka were Kanitha Munasinghe and Nadeera Jayasekera.

Vice President Mr. P.S.Kithsiri Dayananda headed the contingent as Manager with Mr. Julian Bolling as Coach.
