Ladies College won the overall championships of the National Age Group Synchronized Swimming Championships 2013 concluded at the Sugathadasa Stadium Pool yesterday.
They were followed by Visakha Vidyalaya and St. Bridget’s Convent in second and third place respectively.
Twenty-four swimmers from six schools participated at the championships which was also being held as a trial event for the 9th Hong Kong Synchronized Swimming Championships 2013 to be held from 6th to 8th September 2013 in the age groups 12 years and under, 13 to 15 years, 16 to 18 years and 19 years and above.
“The interest in the sport is growing with swimmers participating in the Duet and Team besides the regular Solo events. Our participation at the Hong Kong Synchro Championships is aimed at providing exposure to the swimmers to make aware the gap between our local standards and in the region”, said Akhry Ameer, General Secretary of the Sri Lanka Aquatic Sports Union of the event.
