Kusals’ star while Malinga and Thisara impress in Major T20

Kusal Janith Perera (Colts), Kusal Mendis (CCC) and Thisara Perera(SSC) starred with the bat on a dramatic day of the Sri Lanka Cricket Major T20 tournament where two tied games were witnessed, while Lasith Malinga (NCC) continued to put up some impressive performances in the tournament.

‘Slinga’ Malinga delivered another brilliant spell of T20 bowling when his 3/24 set up NCC’s win over BRC. Upul Tharanga and Niroshan Dickwella also made useful 30’s in the same encounter for NCC as they looked in fine touch.

Ruvindu Gunasekara’s all-round efforts helped Saracens to consecutive wins while Thisara Perera and Dimuth Karunaratne hit half centuries in SSC’s thumping win over Navy SC.

Kusal Janith Perera and Sadeera Samarawickrama put on a century opening stand, with both batsmen making half centuries, to lead Colts to a six wicket win over Ports Authority.

Kusal Mendis’ dream run of form continued when he hit another half century but the soldiers fought back well through an unbeaten half century from Lakshan Edirisinghe to secure a tie and take one point out of the match. Seekuge Prasanna captured four wickets with the ball for Army SC.

The other tied game of the day was the match between Galle CC and Tamil Union. Dhananjaya De Silva’s half century set up a good platform for Tamil Union in their run chase before their middle and lower order exploded as the game ended in a thrilling tie.

Air Force SC recorded a close five-run win (according to D/L method) against Lankan CC at CCC grounds as well.
