Tissa Central batsmen never found themselves in the slot to turn the match in their favour, failing one by one against the Kevian bowling attack, except for a couple of cameos from the opener Gangul Raveena and Sahan Yasindu who scored 37 and 26 respectively. Kevians cleaned them up right after the lunch break for just 137 runs. KV captain Dilshan Lakshitha lead the bowling attack from the front, taking 3 wickets with his offspin, with Avishka Lakshan, Inshanka Siriwardene and the first inning centurian Hiruna Chathumina picking up 2 wickets each.

Tissa Central were forced a follow-on after their unimpressive first innings, leaving them no options other than to try and stay at the crease till the end of the day. Yohan Ravishka, who was promoted to the top of the Tissa lineup gave them a solid start with a fast 71 in a mere 100 balls with 14 boundaries. However, Kalutara Vidyalaya bowlers lead by the vice-captain Chathumina kept taking wickets at the other end, leaving no one for Ravishka to construct a proper partnership with, to strengthen Tissa innings. Chathumina continued to shine, adding 4 more wickets to his bag. It almost looked like Kevians could register a win, with half the Tissa batsmen dismissed when the umpires announced the start of the last hour of the match. The last three batsmen to come out from the Tissa dugout played the good balls sensibly, making sure they didn’t give away any more wickets than Kalutara Vidyalaya bowlers deserved.

 Chathumina’s ton overshadows Tissa bowling

There was an incident at the end of the day when the last batsman was dismissed in the Tissa side refused to walk out of the ground even after the umpire had given him out. The two teams were able to sort it out quickly.

Hiruna Chathumina from Kalutara Vidyalaya was adjudged the man of the match, marking the end of yet another chapter of the Battle of the Mangosteens.
