Two matches in the Singer Schools U-19 Division I two-day cricket tournament 2017/18 were conducted around the island today.

De Mazenod College vs Maliyadeva College

The hosts De Mazenod started the second day in hope of notching up an outright victory against a much-fancied Maliyadeva College in the group ‘D’ encounter which ended in Kandana.

Stylish right-hander Kaveen Bandara came to the rescue and stroked an unbeaten century in the second innings along with Muditha Premadasa (88) to spoil the Mazenodian party in Kandana. However, De Mazenod College take the honors in the drawn game with a 1st innings win.

Gurukula College vs Wesley College

Wesley College skipper Thisuraka Akmeemana won the toss and invited the lads from Kelaniya to take the first lease of the Campbell park surface in the group ‘C’ encounter which commenced today.

The Gurukula boys accepted the challenge and posted 258 in 69.5 overs to put the pressure on the double blues.
Right arm off spinner Rahul Gunasekara was impressive with 4 scalps for Wesley College, while Pruthuvi Bimsara (48) and Pathum Mahesh (46) stroked valuable knocks to give the visitors the upper hand. In reply, the hosts were in a spot of bother with losing 3 wickets for 42 runs at stumps.
