Wesley College managed to win both the U-16 and U-14 Rugby encounters against the spirited junior Zahirians at Maradana.

It was the U-14 game that kicked off first in the scorching heat as the youngsters in both teams showed excellent awareness, playing to their team’s strengths.

The Zahirian lads were the first to score; after collecting the ball kicked into open space, the fullback touched down in the far corner putting Zahira in the lead early on. The young kicker missed the conversion.

Although Zahira led with their five-pointer in the first-half, the second half was dominated by the junior Double-blues. The young Wesleyites went on to score a try beside the posts after finishing a good attacking move and managed to convert it, which gave them the victory by just two points.

The U-16 match saw the Wesleyites showing their form as they dominated the junior Zahirians with three tries from which they converted two.

Although the visitors’ defense was on point, Zahira replied with two tries. The junior Zahirian’s were weak under the high ball and in their defense on the wings. Thus, capitalizing on the opportunities created, the young Double-blues overcame the Zahirian challenge.
