Joes juniors break Antonian hearts

Both the St. Joseph’s U16 and U14 teams managed to win two tight games against the St. Anthony’s Juniors at Havelock Park early this evening.

In the U16 game, the Joes scored pretty early in the game, sending the ball out to the backline after stealing a line-out. The center managed to step past the only defender in the entire backline of the Antonians and score. The kicker converted from under the posts to make it 7 nil in favor of the Joes at half time.

The Antonians scored right from the kick off in the second half; this time too they used their forwards, who were on target with their pick and drops. The game tensed up as the Antonians failed to convert at a slight angle. Both teams had the opportunity to score tries at will but the handling from the players were below standards.

The Joes came from behind to win the U14 game after trailing 10 points to nil at half time. It was a complete turnaround of performances from the Josephians in the 2nd half as they scored two unanswered tries to finish the game 14 points to 10 after the end of the allocated time.

The Antonians put their forwards to good use in both the games and scored both their tries through their bulky forwards early in the game. The Joes however came back late in the second half through the backline. The handling of the U14 team was much better compared to the senior team.
