After 3 days of sportsmanship and much fanfare, the 17th edition of the International Schools Athletic Championships known as ISAC has come to an end with Lyceum International School Wattala crowned as overall champions. This year’s prestigious event was held at the Mahinda Rajapakse International Stadium in Diyagama. The event was graced by Honourable Minister of Sports Dayasiri Jayasekara and Guest of Honour Mrs. Kumari Grero.

The atmosphere at the stadium was very vibrant as it was filled with exuberant students from 25 International Schools and and local Papare bands to the Western bands. Although schools like Asian International, British School in Colombo, Elizabeth Moir and Overseas School did not take part due to the controversy at the beginning of the Championship, the games went on as planned with the organizers taking every precaution to ensure the safety of all students and spectators.

With the launching of ISAC 17 years ago, it is no doubt that the standard of athletics has advanced to an extent where TISSL member schools have not only been able to produce skilled, professional athletes capable of representing Sri Lanka at International Track and Field Athletic Championships abroad, but also produce well balanced global citizens as well. It is hoped that this event will continue to bring together international school children and teach them how to compete in the real world, whilst understanding the true value of good sportsmanship and team work.

With Lyceum International Wattala won the Championship with a staggering 1023 points, Gateway College Colombo came in second with 693 points and Lyceum International Nugegoda following suit with 517 points.

Speaking to an official from a competing school on how Lyceum International Wattala gained a big total to dominate the Championship this is what they had to say “Lyceum is running with many new scholars who performed well in their respective government schools that the schools with the London syllabus cannot compete evenly”

ThePapare.com tried to get in touch with an official from Lyceum International Wattala with regard to the above mentioned quote but came to no avail.
