36 new records in first three days. Joes and Mahamaya on the lead

The 38th Sri Lanka Age Group Aquatic Championships, which is currently underway at the Ananda College Swimming Pool complex, has shown the perfect energetic outfit in the waters, as the participants have set 36 new records in the first three days of the four-day event, conducted by the Sri Lanka Schools Aquatic Association.

Day 1

On Day 1 itself (June 24), the event saw 12 new records been introduced to Sri Lanka Schools meet records list, while St. Joseph’s College and Mahamaya College, who are also the defending champions of the Boys and Girls category established their leads with 156 and 139 points, respectively.

Among the other contenders, Royal College remained in the second place with 142 points and while Ananda College in the third place with 64, in the boys category. The proceedings of Day 1 ended as, Ladies College positioned themselves in the second place with 106 points, whom was followed by Musaues College with 80.

Day 2 

The Day 2 of the 38th Sri Lanka Age Group Aquatic Championships, accommodated 11 new schools meet records. Both the Josephians and Mahamaya girls who managed to clinch an early lead in their respective categories on Day 1, had added 195 and 150 more t their point tables, respectively.

At the end of Day 2, St. Joseph’s College were leading with 351 points and Mahanama College with 289. The josephians were followed by the Royalists with 292 points and Trinity College in the third place.

Ladies College remained in second place with 194 points and Musaeus College were third with 163 points at the end of Day 2.

Day 3

The Day 3 of the event saw five new meet records were set by the schools’ swimmers, while 13 records in total were renewed.  Vinoli Siriwardena of Mahamaya Girls’ School was impressive in her Under 13 50m freestyle event, with her new record clocking 1 minute 14:11 seconds.

Mathew Abeysinghe also managed showcase impressive performances as he swam and established two records in both the under 15 100m butterfly and Under 14 100m freestyle events.

At the end of Day 3 (25 Saturday), St. Joseph’s College was leading the points table with 481.50 points in their den, followed by Royal College with 423.50 and Trinity College with 261 points. Ananda College had faced a set back against the Trinitians, as they had been pushed down to the fourth place with 232 points.

In the girls category, Mahamaya Girls’ School were maintaining their remarkable lead with 439 points on their deck, while Ladies College remained at the second place with 285 points followed by Musaeus College and Visakha Vidyalaya Colombo.

Today is the fourth and final day of the Sri Lanka Schools Aquatic Age Group Championships which is conducted by the Sri Lanka Schools Aquatic Association and sponsored by Nestle Lanka Ltd.
