The Hockey sevens organized by the University of Colombo was held today at the University of Colombo Grounds. The event was a precursor to the inter-university hockey championship to be held later this year saw the participation of 22 teams from around Sri Lanka.

The Men’s Championship was won by the University of Moratuwa who beat the University of Peradeniya in an intense final. The final saw some attacking play by both teams by it was ‘Mora’ who managed to pip ahead with a solitary goal.

University of Moratuwa entered the finals after beating University of Sri Jayawardenapura in a penalty shootout while the University of Peradeniya beat the University of Rajarata quite convincingly by 4-0.

In the Women’s Championship, University of Peradeniya beat the host team 1-nil in a well fought over finals.

Earlier University of Colombo beat the UMoratuwa on penalties whist UPeradeniya also beat USJP on penalties in the semi finals.

The Chief Guest for the evening was the Secretary of the Sri Lanka Hockey Federation.
