The first ever sports physiotherapy work shop in SL on the 23rd

The first ever sports physiotherapy work shop and exhibition in Sri Lanka will be carried out on the 23rd of this month (Monday) at 9:00 am at the Sri Buddha Jayanthi Mandiraya in Colombo.


This event is the first of its kind and will be dedicated to educating school’s sportsmen/women about sports injuries. The workshop will be focused on three main areas according to the head organizer Bhanaka Fernando, mainly about injuries, injury prevention and rehabilitation.

According to Fernando there will be high profile physio’s who will be delivering speeches during the workshop and will also feature physio’s from Sri Lanka cricket.

When ThePapare spoke to the chairperson of the organizing committee Bhanaka Fernando and he stated that, this is the first of its kind in Sri Lanka and that their main objective is to educate future national sportsmen and women regarding the seriousness of injury prevention and rehabilitation.

“Our main focus is on targeting around 15 to 20 schools during this initial work shop”. “Our main goal however is to educate the rural schools as well in time to come” stated Fernando.

According to Fernando lectures regarding injury prevention will be carried out during the morning session and practical applications will be done throughout the day. As reported by Fernando the education minister, health minister and the sports minister have agreed to grace the occasion.

Professor Arjuna de Silva, the newly appointed Director General of the Institute of Sports Medicine (ISM) is also said to be amongst the distinguished guests who will attend the event.
