Netball nationals to shoot out on 21st and 22nd December 2011

The National Netball Championship 2011 is scheduled to get under way on the 21st and 22nd December 2011 at the Sports Ministry grounds, Torrington.

35 teams have registered and will go head to head in a league format with quarter-finals, semi-finals and finals taking place on the 22nd.

While netball has a large contingent of teams around the country, the two best teams from each affiliated district & association will be eligible to participate. The registration will commence at 8.00am on the 21st December 2011.

Last year’s champions Seylan bank and runners up Hatton National bank with their star-studded teams will be the teams to watch out at this event. Sri Lanka netball which is fairly competitive at international level is looking to use this as a platform to launch in to the world stage in the coming years.

Standing tall at a staggering2.06 mtrs, national player TharjiniSivalingamwho has won admiration in the international circuit for the ease in which she shoots a ball and her amazing stature,is no doubt going to be the star attraction.

The final stages of the tournament will commence around noon on the 22nd and at 3.30pm, the finals, awards and closing will be under the patronage of chief guest Hon Minister MahindanandaAluthgaage&Mrs. Ashs Aluthgamage.

The first round of the championship will be on a league basis where 4 groups will play each other, the winners of which will go into the knockout stage
