HNB Emerge Division A Champions-Indoor netball

 

The Inaugural Indoor Netball Championship’, which was organised as part of the “Austasia CSN Action Sports Fieasta 2011”The tournament was keenly contested during the weekend in 5 divisions, which were:

A Division

B Division

C Division

Veterans (Over 40)

Men

Over 50 teams took part in the 2 day event and enjoyed the change of environment that was provided through the Indoor Concept. However the level of competitiveness remained unchanged with very high standards of Netball being played at all divisions. This was very encouraging, especially with some of the best teams in the country participating and fielding their best teams for the events.

The scores of the finals for the final division are as follows:

A division – HNB  Beat Air Force 46 to 33

B division – Police B beat Air Force 32 to 29

C division – Commercial Bank Beat Campbell Sports Club 14 to 13 in a nail biting finish

Veterans (Over 40) - Kotte SC beat Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) 12 to 07

Mens – Campbell Sports Club Beat Police in a thrilling final of 15 to 14 points

Specials awards of the event

Best Shooter – Shashika Samarasinghe (HNB)

Best Defense – Kumari Silva (HNB)

Best Centre Court Player – Samanthi Nilukshika (Air Force)

Netball Queen – Gayathri Lankathilak (HNB)

An equally eventful weekend is scheduled for the 3rd and 4th of December, where Indoor Tag Rugby, Swimming, Squash & Outdoor Six-a-side (Hardball) cricket is expected to commence. Closing dates for most of these events have been extended until 2nd December to allow the opportunity for all interested to participate.

The Sports Fiesta will conclude on the 9th of December, with a grand ‘Awards Night’ that will recognize all the athletes’ performance and include a number of acts and performance to make the night an entertaining one.

With respective officials and dignitaries from 7 sporting bodies expected to grace this special event, it could not be consider fitting with its motto “Unity through Sports”.

Action Sports will continue to work tirelessly in making sure all events are undertaken to the best efforts thereby ensuring that the outcome of it will bring all together, said Shohrab Salman, Managing Director of Action Sports.
