Royal wins Hockey Sevens tournament

Royal College - Colombo managed to clinch the Boys Cup Championship in the "Blue and Gold" Hockey Sevens Tournament held on the 15th and 16th of October. The tournament featured schools from all parts of the island including teams from Matara, Mathale and Jaffna as well!

The sevens game of hockey slightly defers from the usual ground hockey setup, where each team was made up of seven players and playing time was also restricted to two halves of six minutes.

The hosts Royal College had two teams for the tournament - the Royal Blues and the Royal Golds and it was the Golds that emerged victorious after a skillfully fought game against Wijeya Vidyalaya, Mathale in the final.

 

The winners of the other categories are as follows:

* Girls - Cup Champions : Pushpadhaana Vidyalaya

Runners up : Visakha Vidyalaya, Colombo

 

* Boys - Plate Champions : Wesley College, Colombo

Runners up : St. Thomas' College, Matara

 

* Girls - Plate Champions : St. Anthony's College

Runners up : Yashodhara Vidyala

 

* Boys - Bowl Champions : St. Benedict's College

Runners up : D.S. Senanayake College


* Girls - Bowl Champions : Christ Church Mathale

Runners up : Sri Sumangala Balika Vidyalaya
