Army take on Airforce in the Women’s Club Championship Finals

 

The Women’s Club Championship for the year 2011 organized by the Football Federation of Sri Lanka which is currently being conducted from the 14th of October till the 28th of November, has now reached the Final stage of the championship.

The Super Six teams eligible to participate were:

1. SL Army SC

2. SL Navy SC

3. SL Airforce SC

4. SL Police SC

5. Kurunegala SC

6. Gampaha SC

There were 15 Preliminary Round matches, as each team had to face each other once.

Since SL Army SC were the 1st out of the Super Six winning the most amount of points,  by winning 4 out of their 5 preliminary round matches, and drawing one, moved directly into the championship final.

The Semi Final Match

SL Police SC vs SL Airforce SC

SL AirForce SC winning the Quarter Final by beating Kurunegala SC 1-0, went on to play SL Police in the Semi Finals on the 22nd of November 2011 at the CR and FC grounds at 3.00 p.m.

The match proved to be a thriller, as at 90 minutes the score read 2-2, and since this is the knockout stage of the tournament, the match had to be decided through a penalty shoot out. SL Airforce FC managed to beat SL Police FC 4-3, scoring from the spot.

Shanika Rajapakshe scored both goals for SL Police FC, while Kanchana Weeranga and Hasana Dilrangi scored one a piece for SL Airforce FC during the 90 minutes.

The Champion Team and the Runners - up Team   will receive a Champions Challenge Trophy and Runners - up Trophy, respectively.

The Best Player and Best Goal Keeper of the tournament will receive trophies as well.

The finals of the tournament will be held on the 28th of November at 3.00 p.m. at the CR and FC Grounds. Make sure you head there to catch an action packed Final, of the Women’s’ Club Championship.
